“I am beginning to recognize the fact that nothing is true. Nothing. It’s all down to perception.” ~ Barry Gibbs

still fits

This week has been a working staycation, but it has not been without a plan. Much work has been scheduled for the week, and so far, we are meeting the challenge. The biggest part of the plan has been to clean out my garage of all Hero and Shero’s things that we had to move very quickly from West Liberty. It has all been stacked in my garage for over two years. The project is well underway and promises to be a joyful time despite the spiders and dust and sheer volume of stuff to sort through. For example, today we discovered dad’s hat. Everybody in Morgan County that was alive in the 1980s and 1990s will recognize it. The hat, along with his cowboy boots and handlebar moustache, was Dad’s signature look for the better part of his life. This afternoon, I took the hat to him and said, “I’ve got something you’ll remember.” He put it on, sat up straight in his chair, and assumed the classic Shorty demeanour. Tickled me to death to see him, and mom, too. If you didn’t know dad in his prime, I’m sorry. He was a man’s man if ever there was one, but he had a softer heart than anyone I’ve ever known. He took no $h!t, pulled a gun on one or two, yet he fed about half the county from his own pocket. Every once in a while he’ll mention that most people never paid him back, but he always follows with, “but their babies didn’t go hungry and that’s what matters.” I’m telling you: best man ever.

What a man, God has blessed him in so many ways, those people were also blessed to have a man who always care and love children.
