“The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.” ~ Emily Dickinson

blessings old and new

Remember I said in yesterday’s post that my trip to Seedtime on the Cumberland included old friends and new? In this photo we see, sort of, both. You might recall a post in March when I stopped in Jenkins to see a mural by Pam Oldfield Meade and Lacy Hale. I finally met Lacy yesterday (right). She was introduced to me by my old friend Angie DeBord (left). They were womaning the EpiCenter Arts booth where they each had work for sale. I’ve known artist, storyteller, mountain-woman-to-the-core Angie for decades. It’s easily been 25+ years since we’d seen each other in person. My heart burst with joy when I saw her smiling face. We’ve kept up with one another on facebook, but that’s a poor substitute for spending time together. We had a great talk that I wouldn’t trade for anything. After an afternoon of begging, she agreed to a photo with Lacy. Angie’s reason for resistance isn’t vanity. It’s quite logical. It’s her story to tell, so I’ll just say that I was beyond honored that she let me photograph her. Plus, I was tickled to meet Lacy with a smile that lights up a room. They both made me so happy that I couldn’t not talk about them. I’m pretty sure Angie’s gorgeous spirit shines from behind her silhouette, and that’s all you need to see. If you ever have a chance to meet her, or buy her work, do it. Let her enrich your life the way she has enriched mine.
