“Today I shall behave as if this is the day I will be remembered.” ~ Dr. Seuss
This was a wonderful day filled with colleagues and friends (and colleagues who are also friends). We had a “Breakfast on the Balcony” this morning for UK Faculty to come by and meet their Library faculty colleagues and learn about their subject librarians and other services the library offers. We had about a third of an inch of rain just as it started – rare these days as Kentucky has been exceedingly dry of late – so the “balcony” part came later. But when it did, Carol Street, Isaac Wink (above) and I made our way into the breeze. Isaac, one of our newest faculty members, started talking to me about newspapers, so of course, I was all about that. Carol and I always have great conversations, and today was no different. As we walked back to our building, we met one of the library’s newest members, a young man named Matthew, who looked suspiciously like Steve Carrell. We introduced ourselves, and he said to me, “Oh, I’ve heard about you. You’re a photographer.” Instantly made my day! I said something like, “Oh, wow, you don’t know me as a librarian,” and he replied (I’m paraphrasing), “I know you’re a librarian, but I know you first as a photographer.” That seriously made my day. As if that wasn’t life-affirming enough, my friend Hannah Gibson (below) came to see me (some business was attached, but not a lot), and we shared a big hug and smiles. I love feel-good days like this.
