Today, HP class took place at Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate. Joe Brewer first treated us to UK’s Lidar machine. He was scanning the outside of the c.1817 Smokehouse/Carriage House as we were measuring the interior spaces. Architect Darren Taylor wowed us with his Revit prowess (Revit is software much like AutoCAD) as he used our measurements to recreate the building. Next, we render a more three-dimensional drawing of the building, and we might even get a chance to overlay our drawing with Joe’s Lidar scans. I’m a total geek for the Lidar machine, so any opportunity to see it in action, I’m all for. Incidentally, for those who’ve never been to Ashland, the grounds are exquisite and repeat with mature trees. Twelve of those trees were destroyed during the wind storm a few weeks ago, and most still litter the grounds. Even with such a loss, there is plenty left to shade and sway.
